Secret Level TV Show Team Tried To Get A Master Chief/Doom Slayer Crossover

Prime Video’s video game anthology series Secret Level debuted in December, with episodes inspired by various video game franchises, but not Halo or Doom. However, this doesn’t seem to be for lack of trying. Supervising director Dave Wilson and creator Tim Miller recently discussed how they tried and failed to reach a deal with Microsoft for Master Chief and Doom.

wilson told collider Since Secret Level is such a new idea, it’s difficult for some development executives to join because they already have deals with other companies. He said what he heard from these executives was, “This is going to hinder everything we’re doing.”

Miller, meanwhile, pushed back against the idea that his team isn’t trying to land a franchise like Halo. They did, but Microsoft apparently decided to pass, but why is unclear.

“I get a little annoyed when I read online and they’re like, ‘Wait a minute, these bastards got Spelunky when they could’ve got Halo?’ or something like that, and I Say, ‘Man, do you think we haven’t talked to Halo about anything?

Wilson went on to say that the team wanted to make a Master Chief and Doomsday crossover episode and spent “an entire weekend” writing a letter to Microsoft. However, “their response was, ‘No,'” Wilson said.

Wilson said the creative directors at id Software are good friends, and both Wilson and Miller are friends at Microsoft. So they made what Wilson called “the big request,” but it never came to fruition.

Microsoft does have one Existing deal with Netflix to adapt Gears of War,but Paramount’s Halo TV series has ended. No Doom adaptation has been publicly revealed yet, but Peacock reportedly seeking deal to produce ‘Doom’ live-action series. GameSpot has reached out to Microsoft to try to get more details about the situation.

While Master Chief and Doomsday didn’t appear in “Secret Levels,” there was an episode based on The Outer Worlds, developed by Microsoft subsidiary Obsidian. Some of the Sony/PlayStation games featured in Secret Level include Concord, Journey, Little Big Planet, and God of War. There are no Nintendo games featured in Secret Level Season 1.

Wilson went on to discuss other attempts to convince game franchises to sign on to Secret Levels.

“We’ve been approached by some IPs that were having a really big moment and Hollywood called, but three years later, nothing’s happened. We’re going to do an episode for them, which would be great, but Hollywood It actually happened,” he said, without naming the IPs.

Finally, Miller confirmed that the Secret Level team “begged” Valve to give them the rights to Half-Life, but that, of course, didn’t happen either.
