Sipeed NanoKVM-PCIe is an inexpensive KVM over IP solution with optional WiFi 6 and PoE support

Sipeed NanoKVM-PCIe Yes NanoKVM KVM-over IP solution Launched last summer, but instead of a tiny cube with USB-C power, the new model can be powered through the PCIe slot of the host computer (as well as USB-C) and adds optional WiFi 6 and PoE capabilities.

While it’s not based on the LicheePi Nano SBC like the NanoKVM, it relies on the same SOPHGO SG2002 RISC-V/Arm/8051 SoC and offers many of the same ports in different form factors, including 10/100Mbps Ethernet, two USB – One for HID, another for power, a small OLED information display, and an HDMI input port that supports up to 1080p60.

NanoKVM-PCIe specifications:

  • SoC – Sophie high SG2002
    • Main core – 1GHz 64-bit RISC-V C906 or Arm Cortex-A53 core (the latter may not be used here)
    • Small core – 700MHz 64-bit RISC-V C906 core
    • Low Power Core – 25 to 300MHz 8051 MCU Core
    • VPU – MJPEG/H.264 video encoding
    • NPU – 1 TOPS INT8, supports BF16
    • Integrated 256MB DDR3 (SiP)
  • Storage – MicroSD card slot (available at startup)
  • Video input – via MIPI CSI to HDMI adapter board, HDMI input up to 1080p60 with latency of 90 to 230 milliseconds

  • USB – USB-HID Type-C port for connecting to PC for keyboard/mouse emulation
  • Miscellaneous
    • start button
    • StarLED
    • 2x UART (Tx/Rx) via pin header
  • power supply
    • Via PCIe connector
    • Via USB Type-C PWR-IN connector
    • Via optional PoE module
    • ATX power control connects directly to the 9-pin power connector on the motherboard
  • Power consumption – 0.2A @ 5V

NanoKVM-PCIe installed on PC

NanoKVM-PCIe shares the same firmware as the smaller NanoKVM Cube and supports UEFI/BIOS control, simulated USB mouse/keyboard, simulated USB storage, IPMI, WoL, Tailscale, WebSSH and custom scripts. Firmware can be found (binary only) on GitHub and code for the server and web front-end. Wikipedia More details on getting started with hardware and remote management tools.

The latest version of firmware (V1.3.0) implements the following functions:

  • MPJEG and H.264 encoding up to 1080p60fps
  • User space RAM expanded from 128MB to 158MB
  • Automatically update firmware when booting for the first time
  • Virtual HID keyboard and mouse, USB mass storage and USB networking
  • ATX power control
  • Tail board, FRPC
  • WebSSH and serial console (control SBC or switch)
  • Wake on LAN (WoL)
  • Custom script
  • IPv6, mDNS, static IP, etc…
  • Optimize OLED display

NanoKVM-PCIe cards can Buy on AliExpress for $54.99 to $69.99 Depending on the PoE and WiFi options, you will also find it $50 to $70 on Amazon. Please note these are resellers, as is Sipeed Accept “Reservation” It sells for $42 to $58 (including shipping) on its own website. I also see that the company is developing the NanoKVM-USB as a plug-and-play device for use with Google Chrome, and I assume the NanoKVM-DP is for DisplayPort input.

BTW, the US government loves to blacklist companies for “national security” reasons, and Reuters recently reported SOPHGO got caught in the crossfire because of a more powerful AI chip (probably SG2380) from a company that allegedly uses Huawei IP, but SOPHGO denies. It’s ridiculous to think that the low-end SG2002 AI SoC is a threat to any country, but if the US government continues to do this, it could also be blacklisted…just something to keep in mind depending on where you live.
