Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Now the Second Highest-Grossing Video Game Movie of All Time in North America Behind Only… You Guessed It: Super Mario Bros.

The box office success of Sonic The Hedgehog 3 has passed another milestone to become the second highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time in North America.

The film, which added Keanu Reeves to the cast as Shadow the Hedgehog, has now grossed more than $204 million domestically after earning $11 million from 3,582 locations in its fourth weekend. The global total is an impressive $384.8 million.

“Sonic 3” has overtaken its predecessor “Sonic 2” in the domestic box office race, but it is far from being the number one record holder: Movie “Super Mario Brothers”. In fact, the gap is insurmountable. The Nintendo adaptation earned a whopping $574,934,330 domestically for a box office gross of $1,359,146,628. These are numbers that may never be surpassed when it comes to video game adaptations, although the upcoming Minecraft movie and the Super Mario Bros. movie sequel. can approach them.

However, the creators of Sonic The Hedgehog 3 won’t be too concerned. The film is a certified Paramount hit. who has already announced Sonic 4.

Oh, and if you’re interested in other wildly successful video game adaptations, 2022’s Uncharted is in fourth place with $148,648,820 domestically, and the first Sonic film is in fifth with $146,066,470.
