The Korean government has approved Yongin Semiconductor National Industrial Park Three months ahead of schedule, which will significantly shorten project planning time, the report said korean business. The science park is said to be the world’s largest semiconductor hub, housing multiple fabs, power plants and fab suppliers.
Yongin Semiconductor National Industrial Park covers an area of 7.28 square kilometers (equivalent to 1,020 football fields, 3.6 times the area of Monaco, and about half the area of Beverly Hills). It will have six major semiconductor manufacturing plants, three power plants and 60 small and medium-sized enterprises specializing in the production of materials, parts and equipment needed to keep the plants running. YSNIC’s first semiconductor factory is expected to begin operations in 2030.
Bringing major microelectronics manufacturers such as Samsung and SK Hynix and their suppliers together in a large Yongin Semiconductor Cluster is a smart move by the South Korean government as it will enable close cooperation between chipmakers and their suppliers , thereby potentially accelerating the development of new process technologies and/or shortening production times.
According to the report, the Yongin cluster complex aims to attract a total of 300 trillion won (US$203.75 billion) in private investment, is expected to create 1.6 million jobs, and will increase output value by 700 trillion won (US$475.41 billion) upon completion.
Construction of the Yongin cluster was initially planned for 2029 and will begin in December 2026, three and a half years ahead of schedule. To this end, the South Korean government has accelerated the land compensation process to be launched next year and intends to expand key infrastructure such as roads, water and electricity as soon as possible. In addition to the industrial scope, the complex will also include residential areas, forming a small mixed-use city.
The approval ceremony was held on December 26 at Samsung Electronics Industrial Complex in Gyeonggi Province. LH). During the meeting, officials unveiled a detailed development blueprint for the Yongin Semiconductor National Industrial Park to highlight the government’s commitment to developing the national semiconductor industry.
