Wednesday summary declare Its silicon-proven availability Super Ethernet IP solutions for next-generation artificial intelligence clusters with up to 1 million nodes, plus UALink IP solution for connecting large numbers of Pods with up to 1,024 accelerators. These IPs can be used to develop next-generation Super Ethernet network controllers, network interface cards, switches, UALink fabrics and other connectivity solutions.
Synopsys Super Ethernet IP The stack includes MAC and PCS controllers, silicon-proven Synopsys 224G PHY, and verification IP that is UEC compliant and adheres to the latest IEEE 802.3 and OIF-224G standards. This IP uses high-speed 112 Gbps and 224 Gbps SerDes to support multiple data rates, including 4 x 400G, 2 x 800G and 1.6T Ethernet. In addition, these IPs support all the key features that Super Ethernet must support, including advanced error correction, low latency, up to one million nodes, and intelligent multipathing that dynamically distributes packets over the best routes.
Many of Synopsys’ UE IP are already supported, so chip and device designers can save time, reduce risk and accelerate time to market by using them. Generally speaking, Synopsys has complete silicon implementations for network cards, switches, AI accelerators, smart NICs, and more.
“Juniper Networks has introduced the industry’s first 800GbE capabilities with its PTX10002-36QDD packet transport router, which leverages our proprietary Express 5 ASIC and Synopsys Ethernet IP,” Juniper Networks Engineering said Debashis Basu, Senior Vice President. “We will continue to work with Synopsys to leverage the latest technologies from the Ultra Ethernet Consortium (UEC) to transition to the 1.6TbE era. This demonstrates our continued innovation in high-speed networking to achieve significant improvements in scale, reliability, and performance as artificial intelligence works. This is especially important as loads continue to grow exponentially, making such networks more efficient and cost-effective.
In addition to its Super Ethernet IP stack, Synopsys also has UALink IP Solutions Composed of PHY, controller and verification IP, it enables high-speed scalable connectivity for AI accelerators, similar to NVLink used by Nvidia. UALink technology helps each Pod connect up to 1,024 accelerators at 200 Gbps. Just like Super Ethernet, UALink IP also includes features that reduce latency and enhance the overall performance of AI systems. A key feature of UALink is to support shared memory access between processors using RDMA, designed to eliminate performance bottlenecks common in AI clusters.
Synopsys plans to roll out its new connectivity technology in two phases. Ultra Ethernet IP stacking is expected to be available in the first half of 2025.
