The best Plex video player for Apple Vision Pro just got way better

It all started with a planetarium. Now Theater for visionOS became the best Plex video player on Apple Vision Pro. This is due to a bunch of new features in today’s version 2.1 update.

Plex playback is still new as part of the 2.0 update. As I mentioned when launching Theater 2:

Theater 2 has already streamed on YouTube. It can now stream content from your personal Plex Media Server. Of course, this beats the VisionOS Plex app, which doesn’t exist yet.

Okay, the Plex iPad app on AVP isn’t tough competition, but the Theater team just upped their Plex game significantly. Adam Lisagor, of sandwich fame, explains:

2FA support, which was in the app’s plans, opens up the possibility of streaming local Plex servers for many people. Remote server support opens up access for their friends.

Theater has just officially become my favorite Apple Vision Pro app.

Theater 2.1 is available in the VisionOS app store today. The app is free to download and enjoy. Plex support is included with just $4 in-app unlock purchase. If you’re a Plex user, the unlock itself will easily cost $40.
