long story short
- A new report from South Korea further supports rumors that Samsung will switch to Exynos 2500 for the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
- The report quoted an unnamed senior Samsung Electronics official who seemed to suggest that “it should be feasible to equip high-end models of the Z Flip series with Exynos 2500.”
- We’ve reached out to Samsung for more details.
Samsung’s first flagship product in 2025 will be Galaxy S25 seriesbut attention will soon turn to what the company is doing with its foldable products. We’ve been hearing rumors for a while that we might see an expanded lineup of foldables in the coming year, including Galaxy Z Fold 7another folding special edition, Galaxy Z Flip 7and Z Flip FE. Samsung may be looking to further diversify its hardware, as the latest rumors seem to “confirm” that the clamshell foldable device will be moving to the Exynos 2500.
The latest report from one of Korea’s oldest news publications, north korea dailyIt is mentioned that Samsung Electronics has “confirmed” that it will equip its upcoming flip smartphones Galaxy Z Flip FE and Galaxy Flip 7 with the Exynos 2500 SoC. Previously, Samsung successfully stabilized the yield of the 3nm manufacturing process.
Strangely, we haven’t found any such announcement from Samsung. However, the report confidently attributes the following statement to a “senior official” at Samsung Electronics:
Indeed, we used the GAA process for the first time in our OEM 3nm second-generation process and encountered difficulties in mass production. However, the manufacturing process is now stable and it is only a matter of time before mass production begins. Although the Galaxy S25 series seems difficult to equip due to lack of supply guarantee, it should be feasible to equip high-end models of the Z Flip series.
The statement refers to a “premium model in the Z Flip series,” which reveals some key details. First of all, the mention of “clamshell series” means that there may be more than one clamshell foldable product. Focusing on “high-end models”, the Exynos 2500 claims are limited to the Galaxy Z Flip 7, while non-high-end models (likely the Galaxy Z Flip FE) will not come with the same Exynos 2500 SoC. This is consistent with previous leaks suggesting that the Z Flip FE may feature the Exynos 2400e, the same SoC we found in the Galaxy S24 FE.
It’s possible we’ve lost some context in translation, but the report’s claims are fairly confident and clear. Given the publication’s reputation and history, we’re inclined to give it some cautious weight. We’ve reached out to Samsung to ask if this is true, and we’ll update this article once we hear back from them.
If true, this would mark a major shift for Samsung’s foldable phones. Samsung is sticking with the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC for its foldables, so the Exynos foldable will be the first. However, please note that we often hear rumors that almost all of Samsung’s top flagship phones will be equipped with Exynos, but only some of these rumors come true.
