Hey man, it’s that time again. Geoff Keighley will be making an appearance at The Game Awards this year, and excitement is at a fever pitch.
Rumors are flying around in all shapes and sizes, and I’ve already posted some of my expectations on social media, but I wanted to add here what Xbox and Windows PC gamers can expect from Microsoft and its partners at this year’s show.
No spoilers, though.
From what I can tell, there will indeed be at least a few big announcements (originally posted by Jason Schrier on a bit funny). Fans of at least one being a PlayStation exclusive should be very excited to see. However, there is at least one other big announcement that should indeed represent a full multi-platform release across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. If this is true, it should cause a lot of excitement – although I’m not sure I’d expect this particular game to launch any time soon.

As for the Xbox itself, I expect most, if not all every Announcements for Xbox-related multi-platform events. As I discussed before Tweetfor exclusive games, Microsoft will hold its own event later. I’ve heard that Xbox is very happy with the programming that’s been put in place, hosting Xbox Showcase and Developer Direct events through their own channels. We should be getting developer direct sessions in early 2025, which has become tradition. However, there will likely be at least one Xbox first-party game announced at The Game Awards, which could be released sooner than some had previously expected.
I don’t expect Microsoft’s first-party studios to announce any new games at the event – many of these projects are scheduled to be showcased at Xbox’s own showcases and events. However, we might see new footage of Microsoft showing off previously released games. next year’s Upcoming Xbox roadmap That’s quite a lot for an Xbox first-party, and they might want to remind everyone of that fact here.
I expect Microsoft’s third-party publishing partners will be doing a lot of the heavy lifting at this event, but I think we can expect some interesting things regardless. Microsoft and its partners may have some Xbox Game Pass For example, we did have Bethesda’s Todd Howard on stage as a guest, which could indicate that he made some sort of announcement – even if it wasn’t necessarily a new gameplay trailer.
The key takeaway Xbox may want to weave in here is that they have their own plans for content showcase in the near future. Starting with Xbox One’s first party, we’re introducing Avowed, Midnight South, Fable, DOOM: Dark Ages, and other surprises coming next year. Not to mention Activision Blizzard’s list of services, which should include new expansions for World of Warcraft, Diablo IV, and a new entry for Call of Duty.
