These are the best new MacBook deals for the holidays: options as low as $649

Since Apple Intelligence requires an M1 chip or newer, now is the perfect time to buy your first MacBook or upgrade an older MacBook you’re still using. In the Apple Silicon era, MacBooks are cheaper than ever, with the cheapest starting at under $700. Holiday deals make now more than ever the perfect time to buy a new MacBook without draining your bank account.

M1 MacBook Air

Since entering the Apple Silicon era, Apple has launched three MacBook Air models, namely M1, M2 and M3 chips. The M1 MacBook Air still sports the more familiar wedge-shaped design from the Intel era, although many users may prefer that design.

Even though it’s four years old, the M1 MacBook Air is still a great laptop for its price. It’s super fast thanks to the M1 chip, a stunning Retina display (albeit with thicker bezels compared to the newer MacBook Air), a great keyboard, and up to 18 hours of battery life, and it doesn’t sound like It’s a plane that’s about to take off when you turn it on in public.

Since the M1 MacBook Air is the oldest on this list, it’s also the cheapest. One caveat to the M1 MacBook Air is that it’s difficult to find newer models with more than 256GB of storage, so if you need a lot of storage, you’ll have to buy a newer Air. On the plus side, it’s really the only Apple Silicon MacBook to come in gold.

M2 MacBook Air

In 2022, Apple launched a redesigned MacBook Air with a thinner design, larger display, narrower bezels, and reintroduced MagSafe. In addition to silver and space gray, it’s also available in new starlight and midnight colors, although gold is no longer the case.

If you’re looking for a modern MacBook but want to save money, this is your best choice. Since it is no longer the latest model, it goes on sale very frequently. Aside from being a bit slower than the M3 model, it’s actually the latest and greatest. They can now also come with double the RAM, 16GB of unified memory.

M3 MacBook Air

Apple updated its MacBook Air with M3 chips earlier this year, and this is still the latest model. It has the same design as the previous MacBook Air, but it’s faster. Until M4 refreshes sometime next yearalthough if you want the latest chipset, there are still some good deals worth checking out.

14-inch MacBook Pro

Apple redesigned MacBook Pro for 2021 with a new 14-inch miniLED display (with ProMotion), more ports (most notably HDMI and an SD card reader), a bigger battery and better heat dissipation performance. It also features a 1080p webcam for the first time.

Although the 14-inch MacBook Pro doesn’t cost as much as the other listed MacBooks, you can still find some good deals if you want a stunning display and extra ports.

The base M3 model starts with 8GB of memory and lacks an additional USB-C port on the right side. While it’s a decent compromise, it’s the cheapest way to get Apple’s incredible miniLED display on your laptop.
