This story is called “Getting America’s Top Apps of 2024” (it will vary depending on where you are).
As 2024 comes to a close, Apple is excited to launch the year’s most downloaded apps and games on iPhone, iPad and Apple Arcade, with localized charts available to users in more than 30 countries and regions. The year-end rankings, now available on the App Store’s Today tab, include top free and paid apps and games, as well as top Apple Arcade games. Users can also discover 17 outstanding apps and games selected by the 2024 App Store Award winners and App Store editors in the App Store and Apple ecosystem. These apps and games help users inspire creativity and achieve new milestones. And cherish every day with family and friends.

Free apps and games continue to dominate App Store downloads so far. This is evident when you look at the list of paid apps and games, most of which are games from years ago. Not much activity is happening in the prepaid category.
That said, browsing the Free Top Rankings in particular can give you an interesting look at how trends will change in 2024, the Year of Apps, and the winners and losers.
