This Fake Job Interview Offer Will Install Cryptominers on Your PC

Looking for a job is stressful enough without the scammers trying to exploit you. Unfortunately, emotional vulnerability is exactly what cybercriminals use to get people to do what they want. Such is the case with one scam that offers you a job and leaves a cryptojacker with you.

According to Dark readingThere’s a new scam going around. In this attack, the scammer will create a fake job offer and send it to potential victims. At the time of writing, the scammer is posing as a legitimate company, CrowdStrike, but they could theoretically impersonate any company.

In the attack, the email claims that the sender wishes to offer you a position at the company. However, before you are accepted, you will need to complete an interview. The scammer includes a link that they claim will take you to a service where you can schedule an interview.

If you click on the link, you will be taken to a website that will ask you to download the CRM application to proceed. If you download and run the executable, it will perform several checks to determine whether it can silently install malware on your computer. If these checks pass, the executable displays a false error message stating that something went wrong. Then he will secretly install cryptojacker which uses your computer resources to obtain cryptocurrency for the scammer.

Luckily, there is a lot you can do to avoid these types of scams. The first thing to remember is that job offers that appear out of the blue are usually scams..
