This gadget gives your AirTags a 10-year battery upgrade

The worst thing you can do is lose or have your favorite thing stolen – here’s why bluetooth tracker has become very popular. While companies like Tile have been offering solutions for years, it was Apple that actually launched aviation labelwhich really pushes adoption into the mainstream by accessing the company’s vast network of devices. As great as AirTags are already, one company just figured out a way to give them a major upgrade.

The AirTags are powered by a non-rechargeable coin-cell battery, and even with regular use, Apple says it might be a year or so before you need to replace it. You’ll even get a warning on your phone when the battery is low, so you don’t have to hunt for a defunct AirTag.

While that’s totally fine, what if you’re willing to trade off AirTag’s sleek, compact design for battery life? This is the balance of the team Elevation Laboratory Deciding to give it a try, they came up with a solution that basically replaced the AirTag’s internal battery with a few AAs. Dubbed the “TimeCapsule,” when paired with some high-capacity AA batteries, it has the potential to extend AirTags’ lifespan by up to 14 times between battery changes, providing what the company calls “up to a decade of power.”

Of course, the two AAs make the TimeCapsule much bulkier than the ubiquitous AirTags, but it’s still pretty compact, and it doesn’t look like you’ll have any problem finding space for it in your vehicle or bag. The entire unit is screwed shut to prevent casual tampering and help keep the battery nice and dry.

Perhaps the best part here is the cost. If you’re thinking, “That sounds like a good idea, but it doesn’t do that much, so I really don’t want to pay that much,” good news – you don’t have to. While a single AirTag costs $29 on its own, this decade-long battery booster can only power you additional $20. Pick a few up and watch the prices plummet: 2 for $30, 4 for $40.

Of course, you’ll still need to buy a few AA batteries (ElevationLab recommends spending a little more on lithium batteries), but it sounds like it’s pretty cheap and gives you peace of mind.
