This phone can change color based on the seasons

Over the years, several mobile phone manufacturers have offered Android phone Features color-changing backs, although these are largely limited to concept devices. Now, realme has announced that the realme 14 Pro series will launch a distinctive color-changing back.

Realme today partially exposed the Realme 14 Pro series and confirmed that the series will provide a temperature-sensitive color-changing back cover. More specifically, the back cover changes from pearly white to “vivid blue” when the temperature drops below 16 degrees Celsius (60 degrees Fahrenheit). Of course, the opposite happens when temperatures rise above 16 degrees Celsius. The brand likens the effect to color-changing sea creatures like jellyfish.

We tried this feature after this article was published, and the effect was very subtle. Only part of the back cover changes, not the entire back, so it’s not as noticeable as you might think.

Still, the manufacturer says the feature is possible thanks to the use of thermochromic pigments in the back cover. However, it also warned that due to the nature of the material, the impact could “gradually” diminish over time. More specifically, the company says the effect will last about 12 months, with direct sunlight accelerating degradation. So if you want the effects to last longer, you need to use a cap.

Realme has also collaborated with Danish company Valeur Designers to design the phone. The company is offering a Pearl White color option with a “shell-like” texture and a “pearl-like” shine. If this ending sounds familiar, that’s because Huawei P60 Pro Back in 2023, a shell-like pearl variant was launched.

Just like Huawei’s phones, Realme says no two Realme 14 Pro Plus Pearl White versions will be the same thanks to the unique pattern on the back cover. In fact, the company’s monitors show hundreds of back covers, so you can judge for yourself.

For the first time, the realme 14 Pro series offers IP68 protection grade and IP69 rating Dust and water resistant. It’s unclear whether this applies to the Pro and Pro Plus models, or just the latter. However, the manufacturer did confirm that the Pro Plus model comes with a quad-curved screen, a triple rear camera system, and a triple-camera flash for night portraits.

Apart from this, Realme also confirmed that the phone has an unspecified periscope camera and Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset.
