Thousands of Amazon delivery drivers at seven hubs are on strike
Thousands of delivery drivers who work for Amazon’s third-party contractors are now on strike, new york times Report. The workers reportedly went on strike because “Amazon has repeatedly refused to comply with the law and bargain with thousands of Amazon workers who have organized with Teamsters.” Truck Driver Press Release.
Truckers said workers were picketing Amazon warehouses in Atlanta, New York, San Francisco, Southern California and Skokie, Illinois, and that other Amazon truckers were “ready to join them.” “Local Teamsters unions have also set up major pickets at hundreds of Amazon fulfillment centers across the country.”
The National Labor Relations Board filed a complaint against Amazon earlier this year, saying Amazon and one of its third-party contractors are joint employers of delivery drivers and “have a legal obligation to recognize and bargain with the Teamsters union.” Another Trucker Press Release.
For more than a year, the Teamsters union has continued to intentionally mislead the public — claiming they represent “thousands of Amazon employees and drivers.” They don’t and this is yet another attempt to push a false narrative. The fact is that the Teamsters union actively threatens, intimidates and attempts to coerce Amazon workers and third-party drivers into joining them, which is illegal and is the subject of multiple pending unfair labor practice charges against the union.
