Tips and tricks to get the most out of your CarPlay experience
for vast majority people, Vehicle applications is a must. Apple’s in-car experience offers a vastly superior infotainment experience compared to most options from automakers. You get quick access to your favorite apps, integration with Siri, seamless connectivity, and more.
Here are some of my favorite tips and tricks to ensure you get the most out of your CarPlay experience…
Customize your CarPlay apps and home screen
Many of your favorite apps may be available on CarPlay, but that doesn’t mean you want all of them On the CarPlay home screen. Thankfully, adjusting these options is easy.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone
- Click “General”
- Click “CarPlay”
- Click on your car’s name and select “Customize”
Here you’ll see a complete list of all CarPlay apps on your phone. You can simply tap the red minus sign to hide the app so it no longer appears on CarPlay.
You can also rearrange the CarPlay home screen on this page in the Settings app. Just use the three lines to the right of the app icon to drag the apps into the order you want.
CarPlay Wallpaper
While you can’t use any photo as a CarPlay wallpaper, Apple does offer a range of pre-installed options.
- Open CarPlay’s own Settings app
- Select “Wallpaper”
- Select the wallpaper you want and click “Settings”
apple Added new wallpaper options CarPlay is sometimes used, but the number of options available is still limited.
Wireless or wired?
CarPlay works both wired and wirelessly, depending on your car’s make and model. Wired CarPlay generally provides a faster, more reliable experience. When using Wireless CarPlay, you may experience some lag when performing operations such as changing songs and accessing Siri.
This is my strategy:
- When I’m in and out of the car a lot while running errands, I use wireless CarPlay to get around town quickly.
- I use wired CarPlay for long road trips because I’m in the car for a long time.
Again, your mileage may vary depending on your car. However, there are several ways to bring wireless CarPlay to any car. My personal suggestion is CarlinKit 5.0 Adapterwhich converts your car’s wired CarPlay implementation into a wireless experience Under $60.
dark mode
CarPlay offers light mode and dark mode interfaces. In the Settings app via CarPlay, you can choose between three options:
- Light
- dark
- automatic
I use the automatic setting, which switches between light and dark modes based on the time of day and other external lighting factors.
Driving focus mode
One of the most important benefits of CarPlay is that it prevents you from reaching for your phone, thereby increasing in-car safety. The first is driving focus mode. This blocks incoming notifications, messages, and calls so you can focus on the road.
You can customize driving focus mode through the Settings app on your iPhone. You can choose to allow notifications from specific contacts and enable auto-replies to tell people who text you that you’re driving. You can also choose to automatically enable driving focus when connected to CarPlay.
Announcement
Announcement Messages is a popular iPhone feature that works with Siri to read your messages aloud. You can then choose to reply to the message with your voice. The feature works on Apple’s messaging app as well as third-party apps like WhatsApp.
- On your iPhone, go to Settings > Siri & Search > Notifications
- Open announcement notifications and select supported apps
- In CarPlay, make sure Posting via Siri is enabled in the CarPlay Settings app
share game
If you’re like me, you prefer to control your music while driving. However, if you want others in the car to be able to contribute songs to the queue, CarPlay has you covered.
You’ll see a SharePlay icon in the upper right corner of the Apple Music Now Playing screen. By clicking this icon, you will be prompted to generate a QR code that others can scan. Once they scan this QR code, a pop-up window will appear notifying you that someone is interested in joining your SharePlay session.
Once that person joins, others can contribute songs to the queue, see what’s currently playing, and rearrange the queue – even if they don’t have Apple Music.
