what you stare at in your eyes Telephone or today’s computers all began 34 years ago today. For better or worse, the Internet has changed all of our lives, and one of the most important dates in its creation is December 20, 1990. Tim Berners-Lee built the first website and server live. It’s hard to imagine that he could have realized how much this would change the course of history.
If you Google the first website, many results will tell you that it went live on August 6, 1991, but that’s actually the date the world officially accessed it. Berners-Lee was working at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) at the time, and the first website could only be accessed by people on the CERN network. Until August of the following year, the site was accessible to anyone with an Internet connection.
Unfamiliar with the concept of servers at the time, Berners-Lee had to leave a warning to his colleagues. The NeXT computer hosting the project came with a handwritten label written in red ink: “This machine is a server. Don’t power it off!”
The project was modest in scope at the time. Berners-Lee envisioned the Internet primarily as a tool for academics to share files and collaborate on research. However, even in its early stages, the potential of the web was evident.
So, what was the first website? Fittingly, it’s a guide on how to use the web that still works. you can Check it out here. The basic text-based page includes links to information about the project, details on how to access files using the new system, and instructions for setting up your own server.
It was a far cry from what followed, like cats playing keyboards, conspiracy theories, and endless debates over whether the dress was blue and black or white and gold. also for Android Authority To bring you all the latest technological developments, so we raise a glass to Sir Tim today.
