Trump tariffs could raise laptop, tablet prices by 46%, cut sales by 68% – Computerworld
“The new administration must address how tariffs impact American businesses and consumers,” said CTA Vice President for Trade Ed Bzhitwa. “Retaliation by our trading partners raises costs, disrupts supply chains, and harms the competitiveness of U.S. industries. “U.S. trade policy must protect consumers and help American businesses succeed globally.”
Without tariffs, the CTA expects strong growth for the U.S. consumer technology industry in 2025, forecasting record retail revenue to rise 3.2% from 2024 to $537 billion that year.
Stephen Minton, vice president of research data and analytics at IDC, said the impact of tariffs on prices and sales of PCs, tablets and smartphones will depend on the tariff size, exclusions, timing and inclusion of PCs and components.
