Underground mod remasters the game with ray-tracing, PBR materials, and HDR support
Although there may have been some skepticism about NVIDIA RTX RemixThere are still merits to this project. Although it is still a work in progress, it is amazingly beautiful Need for Speed: Dungeon The RTX mod shows just how powerful RTX Remix can be. And you can start playing it right now.
I’m not one to mourn the current state Need for speed franchise because I truly feel it Unrelated going to do something special. At the same time, it cannot be denied that Metro, Metro 2And Most Wanted were the series’ heyday, and it’s a shame that there hasn’t been an official remaster or remake. Here’s the RTX Remix of the 2003 original by Alessandro893. NFS: Dungeon appears in the picture. Don’t believe me? I feel like neon speaks for itself.
Play the unofficial remaster of NFS: Underground RTX today (albeit version 0.3)
I’m happy to admit that I was amazed to see NFS: Dungeon RTX Remix in action. This wonderful mod already exists available for download and testing via ModDBalthough it is clearly unfinished and somewhat unstable. Setting it up isn’t the easiest thing in the world either, but check out the gameplay video provided and tell me you’re not intrigued.
It’s important to note that the RTX remix by Alessandro893 NFS: Dungeon is not just a new visual layer pasted on top of the old code of the original game. For starters, you get a fully customized global illumination system with ray tracing. With Radiation reconstruction is supported. All textures have also been tastefully upscaled, and the game’s entire asset list has been updated for pixel rendering (PBR). Combine all of this and you get a game that could possibly trade blows with some much newer games. It’s not exactly photorealistic, but it looks damn convincing in motion.
The creator has also added over 1,000 additional lights to the Underground city racing tracks, fixed many bugs in the base game, and introduced DLSS support for those with cheaper cars. I’d also recommend trying DLAA if you want to get rid of those annoying alias issues. Not to mention the various high poly meshes added to the game. Or HDR support if you have the equipment to display it.
Again, this is a relatively early version of the mod. Some aspects NFS: Dungeon have not yet been updated for the new rendering setting. For example, car headlights currently do not cast shadows, which can stand out in certain scenes.
In any case, I can’t recommend this mod enough. If you are a fan of the classics Need for speedyou’ll want to check it out, even if you don’t want to try something that’s still early in development. If this project is successful, it’s only a matter of time before someone does something similar for Metro 2. And hey, if you’re into RTX Remix projects, don’t forget to check out the mods for Unreal And Portal 2both of which are also driving trucks.
