If you’re like me, you’re afraid of losing your luggage while traveling. therefore, Apple announces partnership with airlines Sharing AirTag locations as securely as United does is incredible. Folks, now your faith is being rewarded…at least for one airline.
United Airlines is now integrated appleAdd Shared Item Locations for AirTags and other Find My devices to their system. If your luggage is lost, you can now share the location of your items with United to help reunite you faster. Hopefully the stress will be reduced a lot.
Acknowledgments iOS 18.2 updatealso brings Genmoji and The new Voice Memos feature that Michael Bublé lovesthe Projects tab in the Find My app has a new submenu.
Under “Lost” (only used if you misplaced or can’t find your AirTag or other Find My Network device), you can now select “Share Project Location,” which will generate the URL to share.
Let’s say you’re flying United from EWR (Newark Liberty International Airport) to SFO (San Francisco International Airport) and you check a bag with an AirTag (which is something you should always do), but you arrive Sunny California, but your bags end up somewhere else.
Once you send an alert to United, a new screen will appear within the app where you can obtain and paste the URL generated through the Shared Item Location in Find Me. Service and operating agents can use AirTags location to provide assistance in locating your kit faster – which is great.
Additionally, considering that the shared URL shows the AirTag’s location on the map, timestamp, radius with the correct accuracy, coordinates, and updates as it moves through the Find My network, this is particularly important for airlines like United Was a huge help in getting the bag home.
Alleviate your privacy concerns
I’ve lost a bag before, and while I was able to send United a screenshot of the Find My app showing the location of my AirTag, it wasn’t live and couldn’t be reached by the rep I spoke with. Easy Access – Apple has effectively solved this problem with: this new tool. United are integrating in the right way here.
Lori Augustine, vice president of United Airlines’ San Francisco hub, told TechRadar: “We have a strong partnership with Apple on this game-changing technology, which allows us to deliver unprecedented experiences for every interaction. United joins the world’s leading technology companies in our commitment to delivering customers world-class products that shape the future.
Clearly, United recognizes that many people are already traveling using AirTags and sees this integration as a win-win that could improve the customer experience and potentially make its operations more efficient. Apple’s Find My network is highly accurate and includes hundreds of millions of Apple devices (such as iPhones and iPads), some of which are operated by United Airlines on planes and in airports. United has 120,000 iPhones, iPads and Macs, which help strengthen the Find My network in these locations.
Of course, as with AirTags themselves and the Find My network, privacy is paramount here. Therefore, to access Shared Item Locations, users must authenticate, and United and Apple have worked together to allow easy access using whitelisted email addresses. Additionally, Shared Project Location only allows a limited number of views or logins; this way, the tool cannot be abused.
Even better, the Shared Item Location link will automatically expire after 7 days and will be terminated due to proximity alerts when you are reunited with your luggage. United says that less than 1% of passenger bags arrive on later flights, and if you have an AirTag or other Find My device in your suitcase, this can help ease the unpleasant experience. .
It’s now live in the United app, and “Share Item Location” will be live as soon as you update to iOS 18.2 on your iPhone – AirTags themselves don’t need to be updated to use this feature. Additionally, this is United’s latest technology improvement, and we expect more are on the way. The airline already supports iPhone and apple watchas well as a convenient shortcut to checking your luggage at the airport. Is there anything I can do to avoid queuing?
With the busy holiday season approaching, United Airlines was quick to accept Apple’s Shared Item Locations.
Hopefully other airlines will soon follow suit, as Apple originally teased Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Eurowings, Iberia, KLM Airlines, Lufthansa, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, Turkish Airlines, Virgin Atlantic and Vueling said in their initial announcement.
