Until Dawn first look reveals how the movie will expand the video game’s universe

Sony has released a first look at Until dawnupcoming feature film adaptation of the PlayStation Studios video game.

IN videoDirector David F. Sandberg and screenwriter Gary Dauberman explained how they continued the “cinematic” story from the video game into the film while giving audiences a new experience.

“The film has the same tone and the same atmosphere. [of the video game]but it’s expanding in the universe,” Sandberg said.

Until dawn follows a group of friends who meet in the same remote valley where one of them disappeared a year earlier. The group hopes to find answers, but instead they find themselves in a nightmare as a masked killer stalks and kills them one by one. In a video game, the characters’ choices lead to their survival or death, leading to different endings. In the film, the characters are stuck in a time loop where they wake up after dying and start over at the beginning of the evening. The only way for them to escape is to survive until dawn.

“The movie has this mechanic where it starts over and they can try again,” Sandberg said. “Every time they come back to life, it’s like they’re entering a new horror genre.”

Until dawn throw The cast includes Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Odessa A’tzion, Ji Young Yoo, Belmont Cameli and Maia Mitchell. Peter Stormarewho appeared in the video game as a psychiatrist named Dr. Hill, will also star in the film.

“I’m very proud to be a part of this evolution on screen,” Stormare said.

Until dawn will be released in theaters on April 25, 2025.
