It’s easy to forget that the Steam Deck OLED version is a far more significant upgrade than its name suggests. In addition to the obvious upgrade from an LCD display to an OLED display, the display itself has also been upgraded to a 90Hz refresh rate and 7.4-inch form factor, supports HDR, has a brightness of 400 nits, and a peak brightness of 1000 nits in HDR mode. The LCD version is a 7-inch model, does not support HDR, has a peak frequency of 60Hz and a brightness of 400 nits.
Behind the scenes, some changes have also been made; the battery has been significantly upgraded from a 40Whr unit to a 50Whr unit. Valve claims that the 50 Whr unit can power the OLED Deck for 3 to 12 hours, depending on the game. Valve claims battery life of 2-8 hours for the LCD version. The RAM on OLED has been upgraded from 5500MT/s LPDDR5 to the higher clock frequency 6400MT/s LPDDR5, and the process node of AMD APU has been reduced from 7nm to 6nm.
Refurbished Steam Deck OLED is only available in certain regions, including Canada, EU, UK, and US. Refurbished equipment comes with the same one-year warranty as new equipment. However, it may be longer depending on the country you live in.
