Vision Pro is getting NVIDIA GeForce NOW gaming service later this month

The Vision Pro has a lot of potential as a gaming device, but this potential is still largely untapped. Today’s announcement from NVIDIA is one of the first signs of things to come.

Game streaming service will be fully optimized for Safari on VisionOS

How noticed MacStoriesNVIDIA announced that their game streaming serviceGeForce NOW will be coming to Vision Pro later this month “when the latest app update, version 2.0.70, begins rolling out.”

From the NVIDIA announcement:

In partnership with Apple, Meta and ByteDance, NVIDIA is expanding GeForce NOW cloud gaming to Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest 3 and 3S spatial computers, and Pico virtual and mixed reality devices—with all the bells and whistles of NVIDIA technology, including Ray. tracing and NVIDIA DLSS… Later this month, these supported devices will give members access to an extensive library of games to stream through GeForce NOW by visiting play.geforcenow.com in their browser.

It looks like instead of offering a dedicated app for Vision Pro, NVIDIA will be releasing updates that optimize GeForce NOW to perform well in Safari on VisionOS.

NVIDIA says Vision Pro and other VR devices will “support gamepad-compatible games,” and GeForce NOW Ultimate and Performance members will be able to “leverage RTX and DLSS technologies in supported games” for an even better visual experience.

This news follows recent report by Mark Gurman that Apple and Sony are working to bring support for true virtual reality game controllers from the PlayStation VR2 to the Vision Pro. Gradually, Vision Pro’s gaming story begins to grow.

Opinion 9to5Mac

Game streaming has had a rocky road to adoption on Apple platforms, primarily due to App Store rules that at one time limited streaming apps.

However, almost a year ago Apple updated its App Store policy to explicitly allow game streaming apps. We haven’t seen a big wave of developers bringing game streaming to Apple platforms yet, but today’s announcement is a good sign for future potential.
