Two Russian astronauts will venture into the vacuum of space today, and you can watch it live.
Alexey Ovchinin and Ivan Vagner of Roscosmos Russian space agency A spacewalk or extravehicular activity (EVA) will begin outside of space international space station (ISS) starting at 10:10 ET (1310 GMT) on Thursday, December 19. During the spacewalk, which is expected to last six and a half hours, the two Expedition 72 astronauts will install a new instrument for measuring cosmic X-ray sources as well as new electrical equipment. In addition to installing new equipment, Ovchinin and Wagner will remove some old science experiments from outside the space station. During the spacewalk, Roscosmos astronaut Alexander Gorbunov will operate the European Robotic Arm (ERA) from inside the space station while Ovchinin and Wagner relocate the arm’s control panels .
This will be Ovkinin’s second spacewalk, and he will wear the red stripe of his Oran spacesuit. Ovkinin previously EVA conducted in 2019during which the astronaut wished a happy birthday Alexei LeonovIn 1965, a Soviet cosmonaut became the first person to walk in space.
Wearing the blue stripes, Wagner will venture into space for the first time.
