watchOS 11’s fixes make it easier than ever to hit your Apple Watch health goals

The Apple Watch has always been a powerful device for tracking health and fitness. But two recent changes in watchOS 11 make it easier than ever to achieve your goals. Here are the details.

Set daily Apple Watch goals for your health, including rest

When the Apple Watch debuted, its three activity rings were very tightly defined.

To close all the rings, you must exercise for 30 minutes and stand for 12 hours a day. You cannot modify these targets; only the movement ring is customizable.

exist in recent yearswatchOS also adds support for changing exercise and standing goals. But it wasn’t until recent months that watchOS 11 implemented two other key Activity Ring changes.

You can now take Rest days and sick days. Your activity ring can have Different days have different goals This week’s.

watchOS 11 supports “pausing” your Activity Ring for one or more days, so failing to close the Activity Ring on those days won’t end your streak.

You can also adjust your daily goals so that, for example, you need to do more exercise during the week, while you can handle it more easily on the weekends.

Here are two reasons why these changes to Apple Watch can help you achieve your health goals:

  1. Stripes can be great motivation Maintain healthy habits.
  2. Goals need to be viewed as realistic, otherwise we quickly give up on them.

I’ve seen both of these principles reflected in my own Apple Watch journey. Let me explain.

Why Apple Watch health fixes are important

The longest stretch I’ve had with the Move ring off was 285 days.

It was an exciting season, but it came crashing down when I got COVID and could barely get out of bed for a few days.

It was very frustrating to lose the streak and knowing how long it would take to create a new one. I quickly got out of the habit of wearing the ring every day.

The ability to pause my goals would be huge and get me back on track faster.

Likewise, I often have trouble keeping the ring consistent because the Apple Watch historically treats every day the same. If I have a heavy workout day, I’ll still hit my standard goal the next day, which never feels right to me.

Now, I can plan a big workout on Friday and then take it easy on Saturday. My Apple Watch doesn’t shame me into doing this.
