We Tried On Nike Shoes That Look Like Boats and Squeeze and Heat Your Strained, Weary Feet

“So far it feels like it’s vibrating, almost like a massage.” These are the words of my colleague, CNET senior editor Lisa Edichico, about the Nike x Hyperice sneakers we tried on during CES 2025. Think of them as therapeutic recovery boots or high-top sneakers. Shoes that can be adjusted to compress your feet and calves with more traction than compression socks and provide warmth to tired muscles.

And here’s the cool part – you can walk around in them while they try to perform restoration magic.
“It’s definitely feeling the heat in here,” Edicicco said as she walked through the Las Vegas showroom. While the Nike x Hyperice first debuted at the Paris Olympics this summer, we took the chance to try them out for ourselves to show off what’s to come in a space where electronics aid active recovery beyond just tracking your vitals.

These battery-powered boots provide compression and heat for both warm-up and post-workout recovery. Nike says Normatec’s “dual air chamber system connected to heating elements” distributes heat evenly throughout the boots, aiming to warm the muscles and tissues of the feet and ankles.

The Nike x Hyperice features multiple buttons that allow you to control three different levels of compression and heat. It massages and compresses your ankles and feet, and based on our shoe test, you especially feel the warmth around your ankles.

It’s hard to say how effective the shoe will be as a warm-up or recovery system after extensive testing, but the features are definitely noticeable when first used.

The shoes have Velcro straps that are soft and comfortable to walk on, and for now they come in a range of sizes rather than individual sizes, such as men’s sizes 10 to 12. Nike is working on a consumer version that will go on sale, but for now there is no information on when it will be released or how much it will cost.

Nike is also developing a compression and heat protection vest as part of its line of wearables.
