What AirPods Do I Have? 5 Ways to Check Your AirPods Model

Unlike iPhones, which come in different sizes and with different camera designs, it can be difficult to tell which AirPods you have just by looking at them. If you can’t remember which model of AirPods you purchased, here are some ways to find out.

Look at the design of your AirPods

The Apple AirPods line includes three models: AirPods, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. You can tell which type you have by looking at the product design.

The AirPods Max are the most obvious because they are in-ear headphones.

As for the in-ear tips, the regular AirPods have plastic tips, while the AirPods Pro have silicone tips.

For regular AirPods with plastic tips, you can tell the generation by the length of their stem. AirPods 3rd and 4th generations are noticeably shorter than their predecessors; their length is similar to AirPods Pro with silicone tips.

Look at the design of the AirPods charging case

In terms of design, the charging case for the first and second generation AirPods has a square shape. If it is an original standard case, the status indicator will be inside, between the AirPods. If it’s wireless, the status light will be on the outside, on the front of the case.

Both the standard AirPods 4 and the higher-end model with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) have slightly smaller bodies than the AirPods 3. They also don’t have a pairing button, making it easy to tell if you have AirPods 4.

All other charging cases have a horizontal rectangular shape. They will be either AirPods (3rd generation) or AirPods Pro (1st or 2nd generation).

However, the AirPods Pro (2nd generation) are easier to spot since they have a MagSafe charging case, a lanyard loop on the side, and speakers at the bottom. You can tell the difference between a USB-C and Lighting case by looking inside the port or trying either cable (carefully).

To find out which AirPods you have, you can simply look at their design and charging case. And if you don’t have them, the best option is to go into your device’s Bluetooth settings and look for the model or serial number. Then simply match it with the relevant information provided by Apple or enter it into the Apple device coverage page.
