What’s New on Streaming This Week? Watch ‘Squid Game,’ ‘Doctor Who’ and More

With many of us taking some time off over the next few weeks, now is the perfect time to check out some fantastic new games streaming media. This week, whether you’re looking to watch Christmas Day Football (starring Beyoncé) on Netflix, the new Doctor Who special on Disney Plus, or the latest TV shows from HGTV stars Heather Rae and Tarek El Moussa is out there looking through the houses, and there’s plenty to choose from this week.

Earlier this year, Netflix spent $150 million to purchase the rights to this Christmas’ NFL doubleheader (as well as the 2025 and 2026 Christmas games), and you can watch the live broadcast of these games starting at 1 p.m. on December 25. If you want to experience more brutal competition, you only need to wait one day to check out the new season of Squid Game, which will be launched on the platform on December 26.

On Disney Plus, Ncuti Gatwa and Nicola Coughlan co-star in the new holiday-themed episode of Doctor Who, Joy To The World, or Watch the new season of The Flipping El Moussas on Max. The Season 2 finale of Shrinking will air on Apple TV Plus on December 25.

Squidward Season 2 (December 26)

Set three years after the events of Season 1 and three years after the show’s popular streaming debut, the highly anticipated second season of Squidward once again focuses on Lee Jung-jae Ki-hoon (also known as Player 456). To do this, he must find a way to outwit the ever-enigmatic frontman (Lee Byung-hun, also returning from season 1). Wei Hajun is one of the familiar faces returning for Season 2, which will also showcase a new batch of contestants. How long any of them will last is anyone’s guess. It will be available on Netflix from December 26th.

NFL on Netflix: Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans, Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Kansas City Chiefs (December 25)

If football is part of your Christmas traditions, be aware that you won’t be seeing the day’s big NFL game on network television. The NFL’s two Christmas Day games will air exclusively on Netflix. The morning game at 1 pm ET will pit the Super Bowl LLVIII champion Kansas City Chiefs against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the evening game will air at 4:30 pm ET against the Baltimore Ravens and the Houston Texans. Since the later game will be held at NRG Stadium in Houston (aka Beyoncé’s hometown), the singer will perform during the halftime show, making the day a gift for football fans and Cowboy Carter fans alike.

Doctor Who: Joy to the World (December 25)

After a brief shift to New Year-themed programming, Doctor Who’s rich tradition of Christmas specials returned last year with The Church of Ruby Road. The Fifteenth Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa, celebrates his second holiday in Joy to the World, with one of the ladies (Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan) checking into London a hotel and opened the secret door to the Time Hotel. We’re promised dinosaurs and a dastardly, globe-spanning evil plan, but we’re guessing the Doctor and company will be up to the task. The special will air on Disney+ on Christmas Day.

Shrinking Season 2 Finale (December 25)

The Apple TV Plus series Shrink begins as a comedy about therapist Jimmy Laird, played by Jason Segel, as he struggles to pick up the pieces of his life after the death of his wife. Spend time with your teenage daughter. The show’s second season ends this week, and while themes of grief and parenting remain front and center, especially after a recent episode saw Jimmy spiral into a grief spiral, it also tells the stories of friends. A family and how they support each other. The show has one of the best casts on television, with Harrison Ford as Jimmy’s career mentor Paul and Jessica Williams as his co-worker Gabby, alongside Michael Urie, Christa Miller, Luke ·Tenny and Ted McKinley, whose wonderful performances make the play even more perfect. The Season 2 finale will air on Christmas Day.

Flip El Mousas, Season 2 (December 27)

Tarek and Heather Rae El Moussa remain one of the most enduring characters on HGTV, and this week the real estate couple returns with the second season of their series The Flipping El Moussas, set to premiere on December 26 airs on HGTV and will be broadcast live the next day. With limited real estate inventory in California and high interest rates, housing is in short supply, which means the couple has been forced to buy some pretty crappy properties to flip this year. With their toddler Tristan and a property that was damaged during construction, the couple must tackle the biggest renovation hurdle of their careers this season.
