With the new year comes new regular additions to Xbox Game PassMicrosoft’s gaming subscription service, divided into different tiers to suit different price ranges and needs. 2025 begins with the addition of a number of games to the standard tier, announced via Xbox wire on Tuesday.
Standard subscribers will soon be able to play several games that were already in the Ultimate tier, including the open-world fur farming game Lightyear Frontier, which is currently in Game Preview. Meanwhile, Ultimate subscribers can look forward to games like EA Sports UFC 5, as well as Blizzard Entertainment’s original Diablo, although the latter is only available on PC.

As usual, there are a few games that will be leaving the Xbox Game Pass lineup pretty soon. If you want to continue playing these games, you will have to buy them. Remember, you get a discount on everything you buy while it’s still in the Game Pass library, so go after the fact and you’ll save some money.

Another Blizzard game is good, but it’s a slow start to the year.
It’s very cool to see the original Diablo added to the PC Game Pass lineup. Besides continuing the trend slowly but steadily see more Activision Blizzard games on Game Passit’s just an important part of the game’s story. Obviously, Diablo 2 was where the franchise gained widespread recognition and sales, but this would not have been possible without the foundation laid by Diablo.
However, this is otherwise a very low-key way to kick off Game Pass in 2025. Most of the additions here are simply games that were available on Ultimate and PC Game Pass and are moving to the standard tier.
We hope that the next couple of months will bring even more interesting games to everyone. Microsoft has several major developer games currently slated for release this year, including Compulsion Games. South of Midnight and id Software DOOM: Dark Ages. Ideally, we should hear about release dates soon.
I’m also still curious what’s going on with everyone Various Call of Duty games are being added to the Microsoft Storea trend that has been going on for several months now. This is another front where we need to learn more sooner rather than later.
