Android Nougat 7.1 introduced seamless updates back in 2016, but Samsung has resisted the feature. Thanks to seamless updates, users can install system firmware updates in the background and apply them on reboot, thus avoiding long downtime that leaves their phone unusable. Samsung is jumping on the seamless update bandwagon with the Galaxy A55 update this year alone, and the feature is expected to be available on other devices as well. Last month, leakers Spring Girl 8888 It has been claimed that the Galaxy S25 series will support seamless A/B updates. We’ve discovered some leaked documents for the Galaxy S25 Ultra and can independently confirm that it does support seamless A/B updates. The same may be true for the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus.
Seamless updates use two sets of partitions: Slot A and Slot B. System updates will be installed to this backup slot, and rebooting will change the active slot to the backup slot for this update and start immediately.
As a result, users are uninterrupted and spend less time staring at the “Update Installing” or “Optimize App” splash screens. If an update fails to install correctly, a working copy of the system will still be available in the original slot for the phone to reboot. The downside is that this requires more storage space than a non-A/B update system, but considering the advancements in internal storage space in mobile phones, this is not a big issue for flagship phones.
In addition to the seamless update, we can independently confirm that the Galaxy S25 Ultra (SM-S938) comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC (SM8750, code name “pakala”).
