Yes, We’re Getting Closer To Pokémon Day
@mariomaster96 The Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with Switch games, and I expect we’ll see “next-gen patches” that increase the frame rate and/or resolution on the Switch 2 (similar to what the Playstation does).
What this means to me is that if Legends: ZA comes out on Switch, it will automatically be playable on Switch 2 and likely enhanced for Switch 2 (which I guess would qualify as cross-platform).
Any new Pokémon game after Pokémon Legends: ZA will most likely be a Switch 2 exclusive. (This means it won’t run on the original Switch)
Why? So, have you played Pokemon Scarlet and Violet? They still run like garbage on Switch. By supporting the Switch in future mainstream games, they are seriously limiting themselves in what games they can make.
Yes, from a hardware perspective it’s “just a more powerful switch”, but remember how old the switch is now? Tegra X1 is 10 years old. So Switch 2 will be much more powerful.
This won’t be a phone situation where, for example, the iPhone 5, 6 and 7 all use the same software but with slightly different performance.
I’m 100% confident that most Switch 2 games from 3rd party studios will be Switch 2 exclusives (with the exception of Switch games that might get a next-gen fix for Switch 2).
