You have until 2025 to get 5GB of monthly backup data for just $50 a year!

Edgar Cervantes/Android Authority

long story short

  • Mobi offers 5GB of high-speed data and unlimited 1.5Mbps data every month for a whole year for just $50 in total, or just $4.16 per month.
  • The only problem is that this is a beta, so the experience may have some glitches. You also won’t receive a text message or actual number.
  • The beta is running on T-Mobile’s network, so while there are some setup issues and other growing pains, the experience shouldn’t be too different from other prepaid carriers running on UnCarrier’s network.

Unless you happen to live in Hawaii, there’s a good chance you’ve never heard of Mobi, but now’s the time to sit up and take notice because the current deal is pretty hard to beat. Now if you just pay $50 to Mobi You will get 5GB of high-speed data every month T-Mobile’s network Unlimited 1.5Mbps speed all year round.

To call it “extremely cheap” would be an understatement. Now to be clear, Mobi is an MVNO, so you won’t get service directly from T-Mobile, but the provider will work with T-Mobile to provide service. This means you should get a similar experience to prepaid providers Mint Mobile and US Mobile.

Are there any other pitfalls here? There are some, but none of them are deal breakers when you consider the price tag. First, you have until 2025 to sign up to take advantage of this promotional price, which is just over a day away. The bigger problem is that this is a beta program. Therefore, the experience may not be flawless. For example, Mobi notes that setting up iPhones is smooth, but setting up some Android devices can be trickier. The carrier vows to help configure APN settings if needed, but just wanted to clarify that there may be some issues.

The beta’s feature set is also basic—you won’t receive a phone number or text message. These features, along with add-ons like tablet sharing and standalone watch/tablet plans, will ultimately cost extra.

This plan is ideal for those looking for a backup line and can accommodate the occasional breakdown. If you like tinkering and troubleshooting, adding T-Mobile coverage as a secondary option is a great way to go in areas where your primary carrier, like AT&T or Verizon, doesn’t cover you.

Who is Mobi?

Mobi’s operations are far from unreliable and you can definitely trust them. The company was founded in Hawaii in 2006 and has recently expanded beyond the Hawaiian Islands through partnerships with other networks. Mobi’s coverage currently includes the continental United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. As part of the beta, you also get free international access to the UK, Ireland, Portugal, Belgium and India.

Yes, this deal is a steal – but that’s because it’s a beta test. You get unlimited data (limited after 5GB of high-speed usage), but in return you help Mobi identify and fix service issues to improve its products. It’s a win-win.

I’ve signed myself up and will report back on my experience once I have more time to test the beta.
