
Your First Look at Virtua Fighter PS5 Will Drop Jaws
Update []: SEGA now has released a full 35-second concept video of the new Virtua Fighter game running on the engine.
The fine print states that “this is a pre-production concept video” and “actual gameplay and characters may differ from those shown.” This should then be seen as an example of what Ryu ga Gotoku Studio is trying to achieve.
If the final product manages to achieve anything close to this, we could be looking at one of the greatest 3D fighting games ever made.
Original story: SEGA’s storied relationship with graphics card maker Nvidia is well documented, so it’s no surprise that CEO Jensen Huang unveiled a few seconds of footage from the new game. Virtua Fighter game during it CES 2025 presentation.
The clip was described as being built into the engine and appears to still be in a very early stage of development. However, the animation is absolutely extraordinary – even from a small window, everything looks unprecedentedly smooth, and the movements blend seamlessly into each other.
“This is a new Virtua Fighter project,” Huang said passionately. “I just can’t wait!”
Virtua Fighter, created by industry icon Yu Suzuki, was the first 3D fighting game of its kind and paved the way for games such as Tekken And Dead or Alive. While the franchise has been largely neglected as of late, SEGA is putting a lot of effort into reviving it, starting with new esports competitions and an update to the game on PS4. It’ll probably be a few years before we get our hands on a new game, but it looks like it’s coming from Ryu ga Gotoku Studio, which is best known for Like a dragon titles – something special is being prepared here.
