YouTube Music starts testing new metric feature for artists

YouTube Music is constantly looking for new ways to make it easier for artists to track their presence on their platform. Latest metric feature designed for artists YouTube Music allows them to estimate the number of unique users around the world who have viewed or listened to their content.

Music streaming service confirmed We are currently testing a monthly audience metric that is updated daily and shows the total number of unique listeners and viewers of an artist across all formats over the past 28 days.

This metric measures the number of unique users worldwide over the past month across all YouTube formats, such as YouTube, YouTube Music and YouTube Kids. Monthly audience includes users who watched or listened to:

  • Videos, including short ones, uploaded by the artist or his label.
  • Collaborations using artist’s music uploaded to other channels.
  • Videos, including short ones, uploaded by fans accompanied by the artist’s music.
  • Non-musical content from the artist’s channel

The Monthly Audience feature is only available for some artists, while others continue to show their total number of “followers” during the testing phase. YouTube Music’s new metrics feature has a lot in common with Spotify, including the fact that it updates every 28 days and that it shows artists’ “monthly listeners.”

In fact, YouTube Music was probably inspired in many ways Spotify“monthly listeners” feature, although its own “Monthly Audience” feature doesn’t provide as much information as Spotify, at least not in beta.
