You’ve heard of laptops with folding screens, but this one has a rollable screen
long story short
- A trusted leaker has posted images showing what could be the first laptop with a rollable screen.
- The new Lenovo laptop has a vertically expandable screen that offers many advantages.
Over the years, we’ve seen a few laptops with folding screens that accommodate larger monitors. It looks like the company isn’t stopping there, as a reliable leaker has just revealed a new lenovo laptop.
Evan Blass Images have been released of the sixth-generation Lenovo ThinkBook Plus, which could be the first laptop to feature a rollable display. The screen expands upward rather than from the sides. Check out the featured image above and the render below.
A vertically extending screen like this might be convenient for a few reasons. It’s great for reading documents and web pages, reducing the amount of scrolling required. The images also show the ability to run two large application windows on this large display, making it a solid alternative to plugging in a monitor in some situations. Finally, games like arcade-style shooters benefit from taller monitors.
Still, we do wonder about the laptop’s durability, since a rollable screen has more moving parts than a typical laptop monitor. Additionally, the screen is almost certainly made of plastic rather than glass, which means it’s more susceptible to scratches.
Blass says the new Lenovo ThinkBook Plus may be available in CES 2025 Early next month. So you might not have to wait too long to see this device. But if it’s something like a laptop with a folding screen, it’s not going to be cheap by any means. Lenovo will also beat the smartphone industry in terms of rollability, as we haven’t seen any commercial phones with rollable screens.
